The late-summer sky fills with hazy post-storm light, as fluffy gray clouds streak into the distance. There is that “lightning in a bottle” energy—as a hot summer day transitions into a languid evening with the potential for many exciting endings. A sleepy garden dotted with fireflies is the ideal backdrop for Indigo Skies, and an impromptu, yet sophisticated dinner with friends. Our tie-dye runner, trimmed in blue, echoes the night sky and pairs back with coordinating Last July Blue Napkins. Layer in Mercury glass elements: votives and vases that sparkle, casting a fractured light. Serve something warm and comforting like our Banchan Menu or take out sushi for a no-fuss option. We love a signature drink, like a gin-based White Negroni. Fill the vases with simple white flowers. Maybe you add a few wildflowers, or a wisp of blue thistle to tie everything together, et voila— a perfect evening made.

There is something really appealing about a formally set table, but most in-home dining experiences call for a more casual setting. But casual doesn’t mean boring. The art of table setting is exactly that: an art.
Treat your guests to a beautifully set table with a few basic starting points—and your own flare. Start with putting the smallest pieces that you'll use first on the outside, like salad forks or teaspoons. From left to right, follow the alphabet...forks, knife and then spoons.
However, feel free to play around if the mood strikes you and put the fork and spoon next to each other or only use a fork and knife if that's all you need. There is no ONE way to set the table.
Setting a formal dinner table may seem complicated. But it's actually based in simple, straightforward logic. Knowing this, it's can actually be very intuitive. Guests begin eating a meal using the flatware at the outside left and right, and then working their way in towards the plate as the meal proceeds. With this in mind, here's how to set each place: Forks are placed to the left of the plate, knives and spoons to the right. Stemware is set above and to the right of the dinner plate. Bread-and-butter plates sit above the forks, to the left of the place setting. Now you're set.
Ah the After Dark Runner. We love it so much we asked our friends at Atelier Saucier to trim the edges in Last July Blue just for us. The best thing about this runner is that it can and should stay out long after mealtime. It's a centerpiece runner meaning it won't hang off the edge of your table. So keep it on your dining room table all the time with a beautiful vase filled with fresh or dried flowers or a bowl of fruit. It also makes a gorgeous runner on a console or dresser. The (dark) sky is the limit.
